(1830-1902)
The date I am using for Bernard McCauley’s Birth is 1830 as that was the date used as part of the Cemetery record. We know his father’s name was Edward as he was a witness to Bernard’s marriage to Anne Karron. What is not known yet is Bernard’s mother and if he had siblings. There were other McCauley families listed on Irish censes and property valuation forms. I’m not clear on how they are related…yet.
I do know that he and Ann had ten children and of those seven emigrated to the United States. In using the information form the 1901 Irish Censes, His sons Bernard (II) and Thomas would be at the homestead working to support the farm with Thomas doing double duty in the stables at nearby Florence Court. Agnes and Ellen would be attached to that estate with domestic and seamstress duties. At some point in 1901 after the censes was completed, Ellen emigrates to the United States.
Bernard McCauley (I) dies on January 10, 1902, at the projected age of 72 and was buried on January 14th, 1902, in Saint Nailes Cemetery. There is evidence that he had a will and the entry below is from the published book of executed wills for that region of Northern Ireland. He left his wife thirteen pounds. Today this would be the equivalent of roughly $2,500. I believe it was significant that some money was able to be passed along. In that day it was important to demonstrate the intended transfer. The amount must have been enough to sustain Anne as the Irish Censes of 1911 shows her still living on that property. Anges would be traveling between the United States and Ireland at that time.

The Photo below is of the Saint Naile Church and cemetery in Fermanagh Conty, Northern Ireland where Bernard McCauley (I) and his wife Ann Kerron McCauley are buried.
