Adolph Anderson was born in Nykjobing Denmark in 1874. He emigrated to the United States with his Parents, Anders Anderson, Annie Jensen and his younger brother Hans Anderson on April 25, 1890, according to Adolph’s naturalization record. I have not yet authenticated the arrival date of Katherine McCauley, but it is estimated to be 1890 according to the 1900 US Censes. Adolph Anderson’s profession was that of a carpenter and became a naturalized citizen on December 6, 1895. That document is below. They were both living in New York and making lives for themselves.

They were married on June 5, 1895, in New York City. Their marriage certificate confirms Katherine’s identity as the document lists Bernard and McCauley and Anne Kearns as her parents and New Tate, Ireland as the place of her birth. Both the bride and groom have Manhattan addresses. Another lovely element is to see their own original signatures on this marriage certificate.

The family appears to have moved to Clearwater, Minnesota within a year after the marriage. My Understanding from the Anderson family is that Adolph died and after a time, Catherine married his younger brother Hans. I had looked for a death certificate for Adolph in the New York City Archives. I did some research in Minnesota, but the records for deaths before 1900 have not yet been digitized. I made a request to Wright County Health Office and secured a certified record that transcribes the event from the archives and memorializes the important elements on the form below. Adolph Anderson died from consumption on May 31, 1896. The collaborating elements include his occupation of carpenter, his age 20, but most importantly his parents Ander and Annie Anderson. Such a brief marriage, barely a year. The family appears strong and tightly knit. The Andersons pick up the pieces and move forward with their lives.
