The Marriage of Bernard McCauley and Anne Kerron

Bernard McCauley (1846-1902)

Anne Kerron (1847-1928)

Bernard McCauley (I) and Ann Kerron were married on August 13, 1864, in the Crossroads Catholic chapel in the Parish of Florence court, Fermanagh country Northern Ireland.  I have not established their definitive dates of birth, but it seems they would both be between the ages of 17 and 22 years of age.  Bernard’s father’s name was Edward, which is a great clue to further searching the family lineage. The Marriage certificate indicates that both Bernard and his father Edward McCauley were farmers.  Anne Kerron was the daughter of Phillip Kerron.  Mr. Kerron’s occupation is noted as a Carpenter.  My theory is that both families labored to sustain the nearby Florence Court Estate.  There will be more on that theory in future posts.

The photo of the wedding certificate was presented to me at our visit to Enniskillen Castle in 2019.  In the castle is housed the Fermanagh Genealogy Center which conducts research and presentations of historical importance in Fermanagh County.  If one has ancestors from this area, this would be the place to start your research. This is a well-respected organization. The museum is well worth a visit and the displays offer wonderful insights into the people and culture as it developed through the centuries.   A heartfelt thank you to Genealogist Frankie Root for sharing this important document!!!
