The Children of Anne Carron and Bernard McCauley

Together they had ten children.  There will be an initial post on each of them with subsequent posts to follow over time.

Catherine (Katherine) McCauley (1868-1929)

Catherine is the second born child of Anne Kerron (This time spelled Carron) and Bernard McCauley.  When I began genealogy research on the family, It was difficult to find verifiable information and follow clues mostly due to the fact that Catherine changed the spelling of her name after she emigrated to the United States.  At one time I thought there may have been two children named Catherine; one who was named and died as a child, and a second daughter born and named Katherine, spelling the name with a K.  An exhaustive review of the birth records in Fermanagh County using both names and other supporting documents led me to conclude that there was truly only one child named Catherine.  However, In the process of this search, I discovered a tenth child, John McCauley, not previously known to most family members.  (A good story for another time.)

Catherine was born on November 29th, 1868, in Fermanagh County, Northern Ireland.  It was reported on the United Sates   censes of 1900 that she emigrated to the United States in 1890.  It is possible she may have been in attendance for her older brother Edward’s wedding as they were both living in New York at the time.

Catherine seems to be the one that moved the furthest away from Ireland, She Married Adolph Anderson in New York City in 1895 and moved to Hasty Minnesota. Adolph died in 1896 and Catherine married his brother, Hans Anderson .  In 1914 they sold their brick plant and farm in Hasty Minnesota and moved to Lanesboro, South Dakota.  There is so much more to her story including Hans and Katherine’s three children Anne Marie Violet Anderson (1898-1979), Laura Carrie Anderson (1903-1982) and Waldemar Peter Anderson (1904-1952).

I have to give a hearty thank you to Vicki Anderson for researching and sharing this and other information regarding Katherine McCauley. Her husband Robert. is Katherine McCauley-Anderson’s grandson.
