Together they had ten children. There will be an initial post on each of them with subsequent posts to follow over time.
Edward McCauley (1867-1917)
Edward was the first-born child of Bernard McCauley and Ann Kerron and named for Bernard’s father, Edward McCauley. Born in Fermanagh County Northern Ireland, it is reasonable to assume he grew up on the homestead on Newtate Road. This location is near the near-by Florence Court Estate, the seat of the Earls of Enniskillen. Documents suggest the family had a tenant relationship with the Earls. Edward emigrated to the United States of America in 1884 at the age of 27. Below is a copy of the record of his birth.
In New York City Edward met and married Nellie Phalen in 1891. They did not have any children. He worked in the construction trade as a bricklayer and later as a Patrolman in Brooklyn. There are several stories of his exploits that were published in the New York Daily papers at the time. I plan on sharing them in future posts.
Below is a copy of the entry of Edward McCauley’s Birth into the Fermanagh County Civil Record.
